Often when I meet couples for the first time particular comments they make and ideas they about their wedding have stick in my mind - even if, at that stage, I haven’t been commissioned to work with them. In the case of Becky and Nick I left our initial chat struck by their raw enthusiasm for dance, and in particular, how that had coloured their choice of reception venue. I expected something pretty special - but they blew the doors off...
This was a terrific wedding in so many ways, but mainly, I think, due to the relaxed, genuine attitude of the couple themselves. The ceremony itself took place at the ultra-stylish ICA, tucked away on Carlton Terrace in the centre of the capital. It’s just a few seconds walk to The Mall and the venue is a big favourite for small-medium size congregations who seek something very London with a contemporary feel. The only issue in this case was post-wedding the location just didn’t fit for 'operation dance your socks off’… So for this to work we skipped across to The Round Chapel in Hackney, which was simple, accessible and absolutely perfect to let people throw-down and have fun.
Usually, still photography captures atmosphere and locks-in moments better than video, in my opinion. But, as soon as Becky and Nick rocketed around the dance floor like complete pros, I was unsure whether I could capture the movement and energy of the routine in a way to match moving footage. However, upon viewing the set again, the results (and fingers' crossed you agree) really do pull me back into the moment of seeing their moves and marvelling at their perfect timing.
I thank them for asking me to be involved and just hope the few examples from their master set give a glimpse of a very happy couple enjoying a very happy day...
